“Blues in all Flavor”….The Most Delicious, Nutritious, Entertaining & Educational Blues You’ll Ever Taste! Those were Richard Rosenthal’s words in a recent press release from Vizztone Records. A curious statement. Even more curious, it was listed as a children’s blues CD by acclaimed blues singer, Gaye Adegbalola. Why would an renown, award winning blues singer do a CD geared to the children and grandchildren of blues lovers? Curiosity and my being a strong promoter of children’s blues projects, I gave the CD a listen, then another and another. It is an offering for young and old alike. The music is outstanding…as one would expect. Having been a member of Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women, anything less would have been unacceptable from a power house like Gay Adebalola. The message that each song delivers is even more powerful…in a subtle way. This CD is “age appropriate”…for all ages. Blues in all Flavors teaches the listeners the vocabulary of today’s issues and helps them to be proactive to negotiate life’s challenges.

From Piedmont to Delta to Chicago-style, jump to doo-wop, funk to rock, Gaye introduces young listeners and allows them to have a taste of many delicious blues forms.
