BBC Folk Awards 2012 features 32 tracks that span three discs, all of which boast more than a few gems. With the recent success of artists like Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling, the contemporary U.K. folk scene has undergone a bit of a revival, and this highly listenable overview backs that notion up with stand-out offerings coming from artists both established (Oysterband, June Tabor, Martin Simpson, Christy Moore) and relatively new to the court (Lady Maisery, the Unthanks, Jackie Oates, Blair Dunlop). Traditional music gets a fair amount of love here as well, as evidenced by stellar instrumental offerings from Spiers & Boden, Andy Cutting, Graham Mackenzie, and David Foley & Ryan Young. - allmusic.com
