CHICAGO BLUES REUNION - Buried Alive In The Blues (2005)
A warm nostalgic document of second-generation Second City blues, the Chicago Blues Reunion brings together the core alumni (minus the late great Mike Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield, of course) of the incredible blues scene in the city back in the 60s keyboardist Barry Goldberg, who played with Bloomfield behind Dylan at Newport; Nick Gravenites, who wrote the title track that Janis Joplin made famous on Pearl; Corky Siegel, of the seminal Siegel-Schwall Band; and other names with great stories, from blues belter Tracy Nelson (Mother Earth) to Sam Lay (Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Dylan) to Harvey Mandel (Canned Heat), and the list goes on. The album begins with "Born in Chicago," the perfect opening number to get the feet moving and the blood pumping. It is followed by Gravenites aforementioned "Buried Alive in the Blues," before Tracy Nelson takes the commanding lead vocal on "Walk Away. In addition to Gravenites and Nelson, there are two other vocalists on this album. Sam Lay provides the vocals for "Find My Baby" and "Hound Dog," while Corky Siegel lays down the vocals on "King Bee."
