The Receiver

Receiver

Receiver is a two-piece band featuring Rob Beckers on guitar & vocal and Sergej Kreso on drums, vocals & noises.

Observing this band you get a sense this is a countdown to tomorrow, a road map to music destiny.
Naked, powerful and without calculation.

The Receiver demo material hit me with a harsh, heavily – layered but still extremely romantic garage rock sound.

It’s like somebody step in the room full of fucked up business tie “want- to- be musicians” folks and produce powerful scream: “ Stop fucking around and pay attention.”

Coming out with such a great demo material can just leave to our imagination what can be done under fingers of good Producer and mix table in some professional studio.

Well, waiting for the Receiver to capture contract with some mayor label from US or Europe, I am going to focus on describing beauty of this band in it’s pre –record- deal- faze.

They are band which is bringing to us nice sound from musical cuisine which recognize ingredients such as punk, blues, sound and notch of psychedelic music.

Short and energetic songs take rock ’n roll back to its essentials.

Although Receiver only recently was formed (spring 2003) their members played in different bands before. Rob played in Maastricht with ‘The Real McCoy’ and ‘B4theBad’. In his city of birth, Sarajevo, Sergej was involved in the New-Primitives movement, an artistic movement with well known bands like ‘No Smoking Orchestra’ and ‘Elvis J. Kurtovich’.

Two of them, just like the White Stripes, are compelling testimony to the message that for r’n’r is enough to have two.
Rob, guitar player and lead vocal, is product of successful experiment which produced Igglou;
Rock Creature made from quality parts of Mr Iggy Pop and Mr. Lou Reed.

And if you are listening carefully Sergej’s drumming you get a sense that his drum kit exist of 20 different pieces. In reality this is only one extraordinarily drummer with ordinary drum kit.
That’s his secret and important long lasting glue between postmodern ironic Rob’s vocal and guitar with romantic barrage fire of pounding drum from Sergej.

Playing the Receiver’s demo tracks I got a feeling that we are rediscovering here something what was known to so many before, who righteously believed in statement that the best music is music which is coming in completely naked and innocent form.

Music material here is intense and had smouldering harmonies as well as moments of sublime beauty-all pointing to a classic garage rock piece.

I like this band and , as I said before, if they capture attention of some good producer , we should be very soon in position to listen them as “regulars “on radio stations.
