12 Songs Posted by diamondjn1 2005-11-19 06:39:43.0 135.214.42.162 Being a Neil Diamond Fan for 30 years I couldn't disagree with you more. You mention that the "US Critics Brown NOSE" this CD and Neil Wins. I say It's about DARN time they did. If you really followed his career you would KNOW that the Critics, for the most part in the last 25 years or so DO NOT LIKE Neil period. It's US FANS that LOVE Neil and his music. So, if the critics finally like something Neil has done-again-it's about time. This CD is awesome and I am looking foward to Neil and Mr. Rubin making more music. (There are actually 30 songs made, including the 13 on this CD so more are coming) Anyway, sorry you don't like it but you definitely have a right to your opinion, it is in the minority. You may discover that the Early Neil Diamond of 1966-69, instrumentally, sounds very similar to this CD. (Not in lyrics or meaning but the "sound") Enjoy the Classic Neil music anyway! http://www.iaisnd.com/readmessage2.cfm?M=200076&MID=200066&SP=999

simple-minded folks like simple minded albums. if you think 12 Songs is not good-so what?I'm sure every Neil Diamond album has people who hated it. Neil Diamond ripping off Johny Cash?give me a break mac.Johny Cash didnt even write his own songs on his Rick Rubin produced albums.

Great point steve, Johnny Cash only covered songs Neil wrote them, and fortunately this review only appeared in a Croation magzine so not many people would have read it.

You seem to be in the minority with this view of Neil's new album, but hey you are entitled to your opinion. http://www.iaisnd.com/readmessage2.cfm?M=200069&MID=200066&SP=999

it annoys me greatly the way you critics seem to think you can make definitive statements as to what is good and what isn't. I like 12 songs, actually I love it and I have all of ND's albums and have followed his career for years so I think I am qualified to speak, however liking or not liking something remains a personal preference. Fans on this site have posted that they, THEY, don't like this album and that is fine but to say that something is "not good" demonstrates a kind of arogance that I find very offensive. In my opinion the only similarity Johnny Cash's 12 songs shares with American recordings by the way is the same producer.

Pa zar tako o omiljenom Mili Hrnicu. Kako mozes protiv take ljudine...

Citao sam i recenziju. Jako dobro. I dijelim tvoje divljenje prema liku i dijelu Ricka Rubina. Jos uvijek se borim sa emocijama kada slusam zadnji Strumerov album koji mu je ovaj tako lijepo i po mjeri skrojio.

You have a right to your opinion, BUT......... I would like to point out the fact that Rick Rublin also produced album's for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipnot. Slayer, and Weezer among others and has worked with other "oldies" performers including Mick Jagger and Tom Petty. I didn't see you comparing Neil's album to theirs. I think I understand why you think Rubiln was trying to remake Neil Diamond in the image of Johnny Cash, but I don't think he was and I don't think that is a fair comparison. On the otherhand, it is true that Rublin probably used the same "formula" in producing Johnny Cash's albums and Neil's. In Neil's case, that formula included stripping down what some have called Neil's "bombastic" or over the top style. What you may not know is that Neil Diamond BEGAN with a very striped down style in his early career. When he first started out he usually wore all black or perhaps black slacks and an ordinary shirt and he sat on a stool and strummed his guitar which was the ONLY accompaniment he had. Rick Rubin has listened to those early songs and liked them and felt that Neil should do a cd in which he went back to HIS early roots. Neil did not morph into Johnny Cash. Rick Rubin simply suggested to Neil that he return to his own roots. If you don't like that, fine, but don't be critical solely because you are a Johnny Cash fan and think Neil was copying his style, because it is just NOT TRUE.

Kate Mira has replied (with title EXCUSE ME, MR MISETIC, BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST) ARROGANT POSTS THAT I'VE EVER READ! How dare you say that 12 Songs isn't good!?! You don't have to like the cd, but you can't expect to have any credibility if you state your opinion as fact. That's all I'm going to say.

You are entitled to your opinion - but your words are outrageous, and you obviously know nothing about Mr. Diamond. http://www.iaisnd.com/readmessage2.cfm?M=200066&MID=200066&SP= 999
